Nina & Martin | Retro DIY Met Eclectic Fun & Had an Unforgettable Wedding

Forget tradition - this vintage DIY, slightly eclectic, glass bottle loving, convention bucking sort of couple is after my own heart in the Doing It Your Own Way Department.  Seriously, the bride proposed to her prince charming! Meet Nina and Martin, a 70's vintage loving couple from Germany, hell bent on giving their guests - and themselves - a day of unforgettable fun. Chock full of colorful graphics created by Martin, retro inspiration, recycled bottled and flea market finds, this wedding, expertly captured by Britta Schunck Fotografie is full of life, quirk, and things that make you smile.

Interestingly enough, this day may never have happened! Nina shared with us, "Get married? No way! Should it happen some day, then by no means in a white wedding dress. That was my staunch conviction. But then finally came my dream prince and the dream wedding followed." And dream it was.  The couple spend two years, planning, designing, creating a wedding vision to fit their unique personalities. "We started collecting old vases: big, small, simple, broken... it didn't matter. We only wanted them to have charm and fit the occasion. We decorated them with bright ribbons, roses, and lace. Also, it was a lucky coincidence that my husband is a gifted graphic designer."

"We did not want to have our party in a city venue but somewhere in the countryside and so we quickly opted for the cozy Café del Sol in Dusseldorf, situated near the Rhine in an idyllic nature reserve. The owner’s last name was “Sunshine,” and so of course we decided in favor of his place.

Not short on charm and personality, the reception was full of DIY touches - personalized button favors, a retro photo booth fashioned from 70's curtain, AND minced meat pie with onions in place of wedding cake. For their first dance, they "tripped the light fantastic" to music from Pulp Fiction as an enthusiastic crowd cheered them on.  All in all, I'd say a very unforgettable affair!

Despite the rain at the start of the day, Nina and Martin both agree, "It became the most beautiful day of our lives. I think our wedding was a success."  I could not agree more.

Congratulations to Nina and Martin on a wedding well done - we wish you happiness, health and an over abundance of love.  Thank you to Britta Schunck Fotografie for sharing this wedding with us through Two Bright Lights. {Practical Planning} 7 Simple Burlap Wedding Ideas

Burlap is one of the hottest wedding trends these days with its natural texture and organic appeal.  This dense woven fabric is extremely versatile, super eco-friendly, and perfect for modern rustic weddings. At less than $2-$3 a yard and with so many DIY options, this budget friendly trend is  good practical wedding planning in my book! The best thing? Its neutral, natural color is a complement to any wedding theme.

Here are seven simple burlap wedding ideas to add a touch of rustic charm and texture to your big day.

1. Burlap Curtains - Hang burlap curtains to create an intimate setting for your outdoor wedding.

2. Burlap Wrapped Bouquet - An easy way to secure your bouquet and add a neutral texture to your lush blooms.

3. Burlaps Accented Stationary and Invitations - Even small touches can make a big impact.

4. Burlap Flower Cone - I love this gorgeous burlap cone, especially with the lavender. This is a great multipurpose project; it holds flower petals, progams, or ribbon wands, fill with lush flowers and hang on ceremony chairs, or even fill with candy as a sweet treat for guests.

5. Burlap Favor Bags - Fill with seeds or even a tree seedlng and attach a sweet personalized note for guests, who will be sure to remember your wedding for years to come.

6. Burlap Covered Candle Table Numbers - Another easy DIY Wedding idea: glass votive holders, burlap strips, black paint and number stencils. Wrap around the candle holder, glue in the back and add a ribbon to match your wedding colors.

7. Burlap Banner - This is such an easy DIY project for even a not so crafty bride! Stencils, paints, burlap and twine....the banners adds a super sweet, rustic touch to any wedding.

Hope you found inspiration in these burlap wedding decor ideas. In the end, they are all pretty easy to recreate and choosing to include even two or three DIY projects, can help you with a tight wedding budget.
