Nina & Martin | Retro DIY Met Eclectic Fun & Had an Unforgettable Wedding

Forget tradition - this vintage DIY, slightly eclectic, glass bottle loving, convention bucking sort of couple is after my own heart in the Doing It Your Own Way Department.  Seriously, the bride proposed to her prince charming! Meet Nina and Martin, a 70's vintage loving couple from Germany, hell bent on giving their guests - and themselves - a day of unforgettable fun. Chock full of colorful graphics created by Martin, retro inspiration, recycled bottled and flea market finds, this wedding, expertly captured by Britta Schunck Fotografie is full of life, quirk, and things that make you smile.

Interestingly enough, this day may never have happened! Nina shared with us, "Get married? No way! Should it happen some day, then by no means in a white wedding dress. That was my staunch conviction. But then finally came my dream prince and the dream wedding followed." And dream it was.  The couple spend two years, planning, designing, creating a wedding vision to fit their unique personalities. "We started collecting old vases: big, small, simple, broken... it didn't matter. We only wanted them to have charm and fit the occasion. We decorated them with bright ribbons, roses, and lace. Also, it was a lucky coincidence that my husband is a gifted graphic designer."

"We did not want to have our party in a city venue but somewhere in the countryside and so we quickly opted for the cozy Café del Sol in Dusseldorf, situated near the Rhine in an idyllic nature reserve. The owner’s last name was “Sunshine,” and so of course we decided in favor of his place.

Not short on charm and personality, the reception was full of DIY touches - personalized button favors, a retro photo booth fashioned from 70's curtain, AND minced meat pie with onions in place of wedding cake. For their first dance, they "tripped the light fantastic" to music from Pulp Fiction as an enthusiastic crowd cheered them on.  All in all, I'd say a very unforgettable affair!

Despite the rain at the start of the day, Nina and Martin both agree, "It became the most beautiful day of our lives. I think our wedding was a success."  I could not agree more.
