{real couple} Trash the Dress Session in Brazil

Hello de Lovelies, welcome to some wedding gorgeousness! I am so excited about this Trash the Dress Session we received from Almiro Bacha in Laguna, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Originally, I was planning to use this vibrant yellow and blue shot in yesterday's post (Old Blue Trucks and the Newlyweds) but after seeing the rest of the post-wedding photo session, I knew Gustavo and Camila deserved so much more!

Now, to be honest, I'm not much of a trash the dress kind of gal...I totally dig getting dressed up in your gown to take post wedding pictures, but to purposely ruin a dress, doesn't do much for me. OK ok fine...maybe it is cathartic for some brides but if you spend thousands on a wedding gown to ruin in 10 seconds, well that is dang stupid to me. (Check out our post on how to get your dress for less.) Unless, as it turns out for this couple, you rent a previously trashed dress to further trash! Super fun and brilliant, here's why....

Brazil, as we know, is a land of sea and sun and beaches, full of historical architecture and gorgeous landscapes, all perfect for wedding pictures. Problem is almost ALL weddings in Brazil start later in the evening, say 9-ish, meaning daytime, sand and surf shots are almost impossible! So after you've gotten some sleep, you rent a dress, grab your sweetie and head off for yet another day in front of the camera! And VOILA...you have today's Trash the Dress.  Seems like a much better plan and so much more fun to me!

I so love this couple and this session reminds me of the time I spent in Laguna this past winter (Brazilian summer.) Ok actually I got married in Laguna and almost found myself sitting in this exact same water.  But let me tell you, Brazil IS as beautiful as it seems here and they know how to throw one hell of a party!  Thanks again to Almiro Bacha for this amazing session!

Would you do a Trash the Dress session with your own dress or would you rent one instead? Leave us a comment below. Or head over to FACEBOOK to join the conversation.

Enjoy the weekend,

E-Sesh in Brazil: What does yours say about you?

Engagement sessions are THE place to express your personality, highlighting what makes you a super awesome couple, showing the world your love and what you love! The following photos aren't fancy or fru fru or overly artistic, they aren't shabby chic, or muted chroma, or full of vintage typewriters and burlap banners. But they are full of us and us is what really counts. (I know I know, I shouldn't share my own pics but I REALLY want to make a point and...well, I really like them and I think you will too.)

As you all may know, I went off on a fabulous nine month honeymoon to travel Latin America with my hubs and get married again for his family in Brazil. It was some adventure and a great lesson in how to be a partner.

For our wedding, we had the opportunity to work with an amazing photographer, Almiro Bacha, who insisted we do an engagement shoot. Well, I've been there, done that, (this is our second wedding) been traveling for almost three months and have no e-sesh worthy clothes. But we did it anyway...and so should you, if you are considering NOT doing an engagement sessison.

Why? Comfort, comfort, comfort. Most of us feel a little shy with a camera in our face, kissing our sweetie in front of a perfect stranger, acting completely unnatural, in ackward positions and poses. It will only get WORSE on your wedding day. But the process does get easier, you start to lighten up, laugh, relax, work it, enjoy the posing and preening and come to love your photographer. Your wedding day will thank you! It is much bigger and more important but it all starts with that engagement shoot.

The hubs and I decided we wanted the best of Laguna, Santa Catarina, Brazil, the family's hometown, for our pictures; the beach, the colonial feel, the port, the history. For one set, we chose Mr. de Lovely Affair's grandmother's house, which is where his parents fell in love. So sweet!

What does our e-sesh say about us? We are just two normal people, getting married in a gorgeous, exotic place surrounded by family and friends. It says, this is who we are, where we come from, and where we are going.

I hope you love these as much as I do and they give you inspiration to be yourself, let your photographer lead you but make it your own, and enjoy some kissy face time with your hubby to be.

Before they were "courting", Mr. de's mother used to wait in this very window for his father to walk by on his way home from work. We thought it would be cute to recreate the moment for them. It was fun hanging out that window waiting for my sweetie. His mom cried when she say these pictures! Score one for the daughter-in-law!

Laguna is an old colonial town filled with great architecture and colorful buildings. We wanted to capture that feel in our session to remind us of our time there. This is the old town hall, where the Laguna declaration of independence from Portugal was signed. It is now the town's musem.

The port used to be an important economic thoroughfare for Laguna; now it is great for taking photos!

Remember, engagements shoots are just as much about you as they are the photographer. At the end of the day, you are the one with the pictures and what do you want them to say about YOU? Ours say, we love our family, we love our community and we love each other. What more do you need?

Thanks for letting me share and get a little gushy! I wish I could post all of them. If you enjoyed this post or any other, please leave a comment below and on our FACEBOOK page too! You can also join the conversation on TWITTER.

Have an excellent day,

P.S. E-sesh photos have so many practical uses for thrifty brides. I liked ours so much so that we actually used these photos as wedding decor and then gave them away to family members.

{Real Wedding} Renata & Fabio - Brazilian Beach Wedding

Real Wedding - Renata and Fabio at Itamambuca Eco Resort, Ubatuba, Sao Paulo - Brazil

My favorite day of Beach Wedding Week! I seriously love this gorgeous Real Wedding we found over at Para Ti Novia because first, it takes place in Brazil, my second home, and second, it is exactly what a beach wedding should be. Sun, surf, friends and family, and gorgeous surroundings. Be prepared to be smitten!! All images from Brazilian photographer Ale Borges. Obrigada!

Renata and Fabio met through mutual friends initially but were only friends for the first year, even though they both knew they had feelings for the other.  I love that they started officially dating the day before Brazilian Valentine's Day. So sweet!

As Renata says about the proposal: We are not very formal. We didn't even get engaged. In January 2009, friends of ours came to visit. They talked about how they had gotten married and how important the celebration was to them. All the positive vibration on it. So we decided to get married. Simple as that!

In Renata's own words: Everything was very spontaneous. We are surfers and wanted something very clean, beach style, hippie chic and natural. We choose the local typical flowers. Good for the budget and matched perfectly with the place.

The beach is already pretty and special for us so we didn't need much to make it beautiful. In Brazil, at New Year´s eve we wear all white. We believe it brings positive vibrations, purifications and peace.

We didnt want anything too big , we believe “ less is more”. Clean and simple but at the same time sophisticated. Less means less money too. We focused on the importants things, location, food and fun.

I love all the personal touches Renata and Fabio added to their wedding. Here are a few from Renata: The bride came in a boat, the mothers brought water from the ocean to bless the rings, my father read a poem and my father in law the “corintos 13”.  A friend read a letter written by her and made every one cry. The priest told me to give a petal of my flower to everyone, so we did small pieces and give to the crowd.

My favorite picture of the whole bunch!

This wedding is exactly what we think weddings ought to be; full of family, friends, fun with lots of pieces of personality. Renate and Fabio chose to infuse their celebration with all their favorite things, the beach, the water, the sand, and Brazil. From their all white attire to their water ring blessings, they followed their hearts and passion, stayed on budget and focused on the important things.

Thank you to photographer Ale Borges for the photos. You can check out all the pictures of Renta and Fabio's gorgeous wedding HERE.

What personal or cultural touches will you add to your wedding celebration? We'd love to hear your ideas, so leave a comment below.
