An around the net Real Wedding Round Up is my favorite type of post, cause I get to bring you BEAUTIFUL pictures and highlight amazing photographers and other great websites....I know, I know...we are supposed to keep our readers to ourselves but I have to admit deLovely Affair can do a lot of things but there are also some damn good wedding blogs out there.

You know I simply {love} south of the border inspired weddings...they make my heart yearn for sun, color and spicy food...with a little bit of sassy dancing to a mariachi band thrown in there.  In this case both bride and groom are of Mexican descent and their celebration is a perfect combination of old world inspiration and current wedding trends.  We love this Real Wedding for its gorgeous colors - just look at the pop of that bridal bouquet against her dress, its traditional twist on modern - the bride's layed crystal necklace steals my heart and the groom is dashing in his khaki suit, and its homage to cultural customs - from the mantilla veil to the Mexican sweets and treats.

If you have ever been to Puerto Rico, there are three things you will remember: the warmth of her people, the deliciousness of the food and the absolutely stunning, gorgeous views and scenery; this wedding locale is no exception. Historical Fort San Felipe del Morro is a 16th-century citadel located on the northwestern-most point of the islet of San Juan and was built to defend the old city from seaborne enemies. In 1983, it was declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations and sees over 2 million visitors a year. A perfect location for a early evening wedding, this Real Wedding by photographer Orlando Negron is an excellent example of how choice of venue and location can make all the difference. This wedding is just super sweet and makes me happy...the yellow and white theme, the beach, the adorably unfussy couple, in a super casual atmosphere made just for them....it makes me want to cry and run down the beach in my wedding dress all in the same moment. Sigh. Summer, here we come...let's get through spring first. The flowers look fresh off the farm in a palette anyone can love...I know I do...do you? Leave us a comment and let us know. {Real Wedding Roundup} Inspiration from Around the World

To start the week, I thought we would do an around the world Real Wedding round up...there are so many blogs and bloggers, real weddings and gorgeous pictures to serve as celebration inspiration for your special day. Here are a few of our favorites.

We love this Mexican Inspired wedding from Style Me Pretty and all its super duper, fabulous elements, despite the fact that it was north of the border.   The infused with color and  a festive feel, this wedding has some steal worthy eye candy for you to oogle!

Mexican Painkiller - Perfect for a Saturday night

So a year ago my step-mother gave me a fabulous little book titled Girl's Night: Over 1,000 Drinks for Going out, Staying in and Having Fun and I thought it might be fun on our almost last day of Mexican Wedding Inspiration week to make a toast to our friends down South with a lovely drink.  So, Mexican Painkiller it is and for the name alone, I am sharing with you! Sure to be a hit at your wedding. Bottoms up!


Ingredients:

Looks innocent enough! Sourch: Noche Latina

1/2 oz. Jose Cuervo tequila
1/2 oz. Vox Vodka
1/2 oz. Bacardi light rum
1 oz. pineapple juice
1/2 oz. orange juice
2 tbs. Coco Lopez cream of coconut
1 Pineapple slice
1 Cherry
1 Bamboo spike
Nutmeg
Brands can be replaced with your favorite.


Preparation:
Pour all contents over ice, shake vigorously, and serve in a glass. Add a sprinkle of fresh nutmeg on top. Garnish with a pineapple slice and a cherry through a bamboo spike.


Although, this seems to be a summery type fruity drink, I am certain that whipping up a batch in the cold winter would do wonders for our frozen spirits. {pardon the pun}

Papel Picado Wedding Invitation - DIY Style

In continuation of our Mexican Wedding inspiration week, here is a super cool project for the creatively inclined....a Papel Picado Invitation I found on Once Wed.  Literally meaning 'punched' or 'perforated' paper, papel picado is a traditional cut paper folk art found throughout Mexico and the former colonies of Spain as well as in the folk traditions of many other countries. 

The invitation DIY project shown here happens to be for a rehearsal dinner/fiesta but I think you could probably use and embellish this idea for any wedding related event needing an invitation. This project is fun, super easy and makes a big impression for the relative ease of construction. So gather your ladies together and spend a day putting these beauties together.

DIY Papel Picado Invitation Project

For this project, you will need:

- 4-Bar flat note cards - Paper Source is a great place to purchase the 4 Bar note cards or any size you need for that matter. They are my personal favorite and got me through my own wedding!  You can also cut 4-bar sized cards out of regular letter sheet.  

- Scissors

- Glue stick

- Mini papel picado banners: You can purchase mini banners here. The mini banners typically have 10 sheets. This project calls for 5 per invitation. Another more economical option although time consuming is to actually make your own. Here is a helpful instruction guide and cutting template.

- 4-Bar vellum envelopes

After printing your note card, begin assembling the invitations themselves. If you choose to use these banners, which are ten per strand, simply cut the banners in half, allowing for 5 tissue sheets for each invitation.  Next, place a small line of glue on the same area as the string on the first piece of tissue on the papel picado banner.  Center this piece on the notecards and glue into place.  Repeat for the last piece of your cut banner.

And Voila! Wait, that is French...anyway fold together, one flag on top of another, arranging the two notecards as if it were a bi-fold invitation. Slip in your vellum envelope and mail off the fun!

{Monday Eye Candy} Mexican Themed Wedding Invitations

This week I thought it would be nice to feature all things Mexican Wedding...there is something about a festive, colorful celebration filled with strong family traditions, rich textures and lively music, that simply makes me fall in love {no pun intended} with Mexican inspired weddings.  From the garb to the decorations, the history to the community, I think our friends to the South have this wedding thing down pat. So enjoy and Vive la Mexico!


Let's start off the week with this one-of-a kind eye candy I scored over at Alchemy Fine Events and Weddings who specialize in unique, super personalized events, and extraordinary, I mean super DUPER extraordinary invitation design. A huge thank you for letting us borrow these images.   I hope they encourage you to create a heritage inspired first impression with your wedding invitations.  

I SO {heart} the Day of the Dead theme!

Look at the fabulous detail within the skull, hearts, stars, birds, musical notes, champagne....swoon.
Can you find Mickey Mouse? The abalone button eyes --- INSPIRED!

The front of the invitation seriously takes the cake but it is all the additional little details that make the entire thing come together for a clean, branded look

I can only imagine how truly awesome this wedding was based on the couple's first fabulous Mexican heritage inspired impression.
