Top 10 Ideas for Your Watercolor Wedding: An Artsy Trend for 2013

Georgia O'Keefe would be absolutely wild over the Watercolor Wedding trend that is emerging for the 2013 wedding season.  Heck, I am giddy as a school girl too! It reminds me of my Great Aunt's paint box; she loved how water diluted the vibrant paint ever so slightly to create a soft muted hue, not too subtle but not off the chroma chart either.

Colorful, soft, and pretty, a watercolor wedding palette allows you to add a brush stroke of style and creativity without it being too overwhelming. I love this theme for artsy couples and brides with an artist's personality - those who loves playing with light and texture and appreciate the subtle nuances of color. Creating watercolor wedding decorations is easier than you think for you DIYers out there - think candles, flowers, tags, and seating arrangements. I've got some great tutorials coming up soon to get you started.

Here are my Top 10 favorite Watercolor Wedding ideas to get excited about:

With a Watercolor Wedding theme, the possibilities are endless, and the beautiful part is that none of it needs to be perfect. Just think of Van Gogh, Cezanne and Andrew Wyeth whose imperfections made them Master Artists of our Times.

{Color Inspiration} Pretty Pink & Grass Green Wedding Palette -

Preppy Palette

Did you see Monday's gorgeous Real Wedding? I was so inspired by Angel's color choices, I just had to put together a Color Inspiration Board for you! A Pink and Green wedding palette is fresh, clean and romantic; it feels light and airy, and full of promise! From soft, sweet blush pink to almost festive fuchsia, from light sage green to a deep pine, there are so many shade combinations that all work well together for any type of wedding.

Once considered "preppy", these colors have most transitioned in mainstream wedding popularity!  A perfect choice for a late spring, early summer wedding, this duo palette makes me want to eat some cotton candy and sip a Grasshopper drink! Who is with me?

What other great color combo do you think is super popular these days? Passing fad or here to stay?

Check out this and other Color Inspiration Boards over at Pinterest! So many great inspiration images to share there, we'd love it if you'd follow us.

Rainbow Wedding Decor - Top Trend for 2013 by Art Deco Gal

Looking forward to a wedding next year and want to know the hottest wedding trends for 2013? Look no further, Art Deco Gal has the trend forecast for you right here on de Lovely Affair. Each week I'll bring you the best for the 2013 wedding season, from wedding dresses to decorations, bridesmaids, themes, and flowers. And other predictions you'd like me to make, just let us know.

Today is all about THE hot trend in wedding décor for 2013 - Rainbow Colors. If the devil's in the details, look no further than this bold prediction!

Rainbow Wedding Decor - It's a Skittles world out there!

2013 wedding trends,

I guess everything old really IS new again! Rainbows are BACK and these bold colors are going to be THE popular theme for weddings next year! A confident couple with outside the box thinking is likely to pull this off - a color explosion is not for the faint of heart. This loud, vivid color palette screams fun and frivolity, joy and pure happiness, so be prepared!

From dresses to lanterns and pinwheels, wedding cakes to guest favors, rainbows are popping up everywhere! I'm keen on the idea of showcasing all colors so that no one color is dominant, quite a departure from the monochromatic palettes we have been seeing lately. Remember to temper it with white or neutral as this color scheme can appear harsh and tacky when overdone. Think My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding....yeah that kind of tacky. Done right - super tasteful!

I think a perfect place to put this trend front and center is with the ladies! Bridesmaids dressed in brilliant rainbow colors are a natural compliment to the bride's traditional white attire. Talk about POP! Tie it all with flowers, each girl with the same color as her dress or mix them all together for each bouquet - just keep the colors consistent. Make sure your bouquet is an explosion of the same colors to keep the wedding brand going!

Truth be told, there is no hard and fast rule about which form your rainbow colors take - they don't have to be in a straight line. Try to add different variations, mix it up and have some fun playing with the hues and the color palettes.

Last but not least, offer of a rainbow of sweet treats that are sure to please any palette! Dessert tables and candy bars are by nature bright and vivid to attract the wandering guest - sort of like a bee to a flower. A color overload here is flavorful and fun, a delicious way to say thank you for being part of our day!  And with so many candies and sweets to choose from, this should be relatively easy to create DIY style and on a budget.

The most important thing I can say is - take it and make it your own, have fun with this wedding trend and don't be afraid of color! 5 Global Celebrations for Wedding Color Inspiration

The World of Color

If you are looking for color inspiration - the best place to start your wedding planning- sometimes you need to look no further than global festivals and traditions for ideas. We know which colors we like, we know what colors can say about us, and we know sometimes colors also have specific traditional meanings. So how about TWO cross-offs in one on your wedding list: COLOR and CULTURE. Here are some great examples of color at traditional global celebrations:

Holi, Hindu festival of spring and colors - Hindus greet the turn of winter into spring with a splash of color. The large festival has roots to many Hindu legends associated with the triumph of good over evil. The colors are vivid and stunning and can be inspiration for a bold bride with bold hues and a bold statement on her mind!

Cinco de Mayo - Probably the most famous of all celebrations from our southern neighbor, Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces in 1862. Filled with Mexican heritage and pride, this celebration offers an amazing spectrum of vivid and vibrant hues. In fact, I would dare say I chose MY wedding palette by looking at these kinds of celebrations and how they used color to represent excitement, enjoyment and energy.  Having a Mexican themed wedding? Here are some easy ways to incorporate Mexican wedding traditions into your big day.

From the gorgeous continent of Asia, Chinese New Year celebrations are just ripe with colors - red and gold - that stand for luck and love. Red is also known for being fiery and passionate, making it ideal color for weddings in my book. Use with moderation and to add a punch to a neutral background.

Lest we forget: Brazilian Carnival; every color possible can be found here. I had the chance to witness the spectacle that is Carnival this last year and it is inspiring in every way - the music, dance, costumes, the whole of a country celebrating with joy and fervor.

St. Patrick's Day - the giver of green, perfect for a Spring wedding! Irish/Celtic wedding themes are becoming more and more popular as couples begin incorporating cultural traditions into their marriage celebrations. Here are some simple ways to add a touch of the Emerald Aisle to your wedding.

{Real Engagement} Jamie & Eamon - Carnival Love + Bubbles

You know when an image just stands up and SLAPS you - the colors pop, the love jumps off the page, the pose is spontaneous and perfect....yeah that kind of slap! Well, welcome to today's Real Engagement session with Jamie and Eamon, coming to us from Joe Elario Photography out of Albany, NY. Talk about unique - I simply adore the carnival setting for this super cute couple who happen to be grade school sweethearts!  This shoot transports me back to junior high when the county fair was THE place for young love to blossom. Carnies, cotton candy, and holding hands on the ferris wheel. Sigh.

Photographer JP Elario says, "I loved working with this couple! Jamie and Eamon have been dating for 10 years, these guys got together back in the eighth grade! A true love story right? And with all the fairs going on, I thought I must do an engagement session at one. I just knew all the colors and scenes would not disappoint and boy, was I right. Sure we had to deal with the carnies and wow, they’re a unique breed to say the least but all in all, it was a kick ass session."

These colors make the whole shoot. What a great location! I think this picture is my favorite.

Or maybe this one! It is so hard to choose!

JP: "What's a fair without a carousel? Jamie & Eamon let me buy them a round. Although standing backwards and shooting did make me a little dizzy, the shot was totally worth it."

JP "took care" of a bubble guy early on in the shoot and was bound and determined not to let those bubbles go to waste! I think they work so perfectly in this setting, soft and delicate, throwing off small soapy rainbows of light. LOVE it!

Can you imagine how hard it would be hard to choose a favorite group of pictures from this session? According to JP, this one is his favorite! I love the out of focus colors and lights in the background; Jamie and Eamon just pop right out of the image!

JP: "The blue light is always the good stuff." I would have to agree on this one in particular. Amid the colorful flashing lights, carny calls, rollercoaster screams, and impossible to win games, Jamie and Eamon are almost like the eye in a hurricane, the energy is around them is frenetic and lively but their love is peaceful and steady.

This has to be one of the most enjoyable engagement shoots I have seen in a long time, and I get to see a lot! Amazing composition, color and just plain fun! I can't WAIT to bring your their wedding photos next week!

Thanks so much to JP for letting us share this light up your heart Real Engagement session. Joe Elario Photography is a fabulous father and son wedding photography team known for their style, stellar reputation and reliability. The duo is available to shoot weddings & events in Albany, Saratoga Springs, Lake George, & NY.  Personally, I am super smitten with them already, quick to respond, easy to work with and awesome sense of humor.
